Visuals

This video talks a lot about the differences of a radiologist and a radiology technician. Where in my case I want to be a radiology technician.

This video shows what a radiology technician does on a daily average. This can help me prepare to know what I'm going to be doing for the rest of my life.

Interview

I conducted my interview with Valerie Langford through email on April 5. She is a cousin of one of my teammates. She went to Radiology school through a hospital based program and also got her Associates Degree through X-ray school. After she graduated from that, she attended Nuclear Medical School and is now working on her Bachelor’s Degree. I was very surprised when Valerie told me that she went to Nuclear Medical School. I honestly am not even sure what that is. What I mainly want to major in is a Radiology Technician. I was sure when I asked what are the most common injuries she works with would be bones but I was just curious to see if there was anything else interesting that she worked with. I was happy to hear that she only has a total of 2-4 years of schooling.

"RadiologyInfo." Careers in Radiology. Radiological Society of North America, Inc. (RSNA), 2010. Web. 5 Apr 2010. ;.
This source gives all the different types of radiology, which can really help me because I’m not exactly positive which field I’d like to go into yet. It also gives a complete definition of what a radiologist is and what they do. There are some mix ups on exactly what each does. What I’m looking to be is a radiologist technician and they are the ones that deal with all the different x-rays.

Langford, Valerie. Personal Interview. 6 April 2010.

I conducted an email interview with Valerie and she was very helpful. She told me exactly where she went to school and for how long. She did say that there are cons to being in radiology but there are also a lot of pros. The main thing she works with is broken bones, and they come from all sort of accidents she says.

Collected Links

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radiology

This Wikipedia website on Radiology explains the different types of X-rays that radiologists might use. In each section it gives the definition of what type of X-ray it is and how and why it is used. There is also another paragraph on Radiology training, which tells you all the schooling that needs to be done and the rate of success for the next couple of years. I can use this website to study exactly what type of Radiology position I’d like.

http://www.gvpub.com/rtblog/?p=386#more-386

This is a blog of a mother questioning if the rays from the X-ray her son had could harm him in any way. This article might be useful as a controversial side to Radiology. The little boy went through many different CT and MRI scans that his mother was concerned he could get cancer from them. The article explains that getting the multiple X-rays was much better than not getting any and risking any head trauma.

This article is probably the most useful out of all the ones that I have searched. It gives me the nature of the work, training and other qualifications, employment, job outlook, projections, earnings, wages, related occupations, and sources for any additional information on Radiology. All the information I’m really interested in is located on this website. In the additional sources link, I can also search for other types of radiology other than just a radiology technician. This is one of the main sites I will be using for doing research on Radiology.

This article is from Contemporary Diagnostic Radiology magazine. It talks about CT scans which is one of my main interests in Radiology. When I was younger I had a CT scan and since then I have always wondered how they work.

Topic Proposal

For essay number three I am choosing to write about Radiology. Before college I had bever even considered that Radiology might be my mojor. My dad had introduced it to me but I never had second thoughts about it until I looked into it about two months later and found they make very good money and have great working hours, my dream job. This job has now attracted my interest from all the sports I have participated in. I’ve always wondered what it might be like to know why a bone was fractured or broken and to actually see it in an x-ray. It is also a job that will always be needed and there are very many opportunities that I will have to receive a job as a radiologist.
